5 Instagram-Worthy Recipes You Will Instantly Fall in Love With

The Internet (read Instagram) changed the way we experience food. However good you tell us it was, we won’t believe it until we’ve seen it on Instagram, all filtered up, shot from a nice angle, tempting us to try it too.

We won’t try your patience with tricky dishes, fancy decorations, or effects you can only get with pro equipment. You can get those Insta likes with a photo you’ve taken with your phone, on your kitchen bench top, with a few props you have at home.

So let’s cut to the chase, and get you the list of super-easy Instagram-worthy dishes that taste just as good as they look.

1. Pear Pancakes

  • 1 cup flour, self-raising
  • a few sticks butter
  • 1 cup milk, semi-skimmed or to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pear
  • fat-free yogurt , for serving
  • honey or maple syrup, for serving

In a mixing bowl put the milk, flour, salt and egg and whisk until smooth. Grate in the whole pear and stir it in with a spoon.

In a large pan on medium heat, put a stick of butter. Once it melts, slowly add the batter to the pan. Cook your pancakes for a few minutes, until golden, and flip over to cook the other side.

Once golden and fluffy, serve them warm with a dollop of yogurt topped with some honey (or maple syrup).

Tip: Have fun with the recipe by switching up the fruit. Go for apples, blueberries, blackberries, bananas or strawberries.

How to make your food look good on Instagram:

Serve in a single colour plate. Stack up a few and serve with a topping (yogurt, berries, etc.) to add colour and fun. A cup of coffee, or fresh juice on the table makes a great instagrammable food shot. Do a close up to show off texture, bird’s eye view to for the topping and the whole setting, or a side angle for a high stack.

2. Grilled Cheese Sandwich

  • 2 slices bread
  • some butter
  • 1 slice Cheddar cheese

Heat skillet on medium high. Butter one slice of bread, place it down on the skillet and put a slice of cheese on top of bread.

Butter another slice of bread and place on top of the cheese with the buttered side on top. Grill on both until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

How to make your food look good on Instagram:

Cut the sandwich diagonally to get two triangle sandwiches. If you made a couple of sandwiches, put on a platter and stack up, or use a wooden serving board. Enhance the image by keeping the cutlery, sauce or veggie garnish in the background.

3. Berry Mix Smoothie Bowl

  • 1 ½ cups of frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt, and some more for drizzling
  • ½ peach, sliced
  • 2 tbsp dried mulberries
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup pomegranate juice

Blend berries, pomegranate juice, and yogurt until smooth. Pour mixture into a bowl and top with the peach, blueberries, mulberries, and seeds. Drizzle with yogurt.

To get a proper drizzle, get the yogurt to loosen up by adding water or milk.

How to make your food look good on Instagram:

This smoothie recipe has plenty of vibrant colours. The smoothie itself is dark red, and the yellow of the peach wedges goes great with it. Arrange them on one side of the bowl. You can either make strips of different toppings; a line of mulberries, a line of blueberries and a line of seeds, or mix them up by leaving one-third of the bowl topping-free. Use some yogurt to bring all the colours together and make a jolly spiral drizzle.

Snap a pic from the top, on a single-colour surface with a spoon next to bowl or cups of different ingredients in the background.

4. Cheese and Tomato Bruschetta

  • 6 tomatoes, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, without stems
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 French baguette, sliced and toasted

In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, basil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.

Divide the mixture evenly on each baguette slice. Top with mozzarella cheese.

Broil the baguette slices for about 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

How to make your food look good on Instagram:

Place bruschetta on white or light-coloured serving platter. The tomato mixture is colourful enough so don’t let anything distract from it. The dominating colour is red, and the best way to make it pop is to add some green. Decorate the plate with some basil leafs, place an avocado in the background or any green prop that will be out of focus, and do a great job of highlighting the tomato red.

In a separate bowl, mix flour, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Add butter until mixture gets coarse crumbs. Use it to top the mixture in the muffin pan.

How to make your food look good on Instagram:

When you think ‘instagrammable food’, you think muffins, cakes, tarts or other baked desserts. They look great on the kitchen counter, still in the pan, on a tray, or a serving plate. Add a rustic feel with an oven mitt or dish towel. If you’ve taken the muffins out of the pan, try to put them all, or as many as you can, on the photo. Apples and cinnamon sticks are great props for this recipe, adding colour and atmosphere to the image.
